Harriet invited me to her home when little Matilda was just three weeks old. I always enjoy these newborn sessions because there is never a plan to rush from one photograph to another. Instead, we simply spend time together and see what the baby wants to do.

When I arrived, Matilda was sleeping peacefully, so we started with a few quiet portraits before she woke up. Later we photographed all the little moments that naturally happened throughout the morning. Harriet changed her, cuddled her, and we even photographed Matilda enjoying her bath. Those everyday moments are often the ones parents forget the quickest, but they become so precious when you can look back at them years later.

I also spent time photographing all the tiny details that disappear so fast — her little hands, feet, sleepy expressions and the way she looked at just three weeks old. We didn’t need any complicated props or poses because everything we needed was already there in their home.

I always try to photograph newborn sessions as a story rather than a collection of portraits. Every family is different, every baby has their own little personality, and I love capturing those first weeks exactly as they are. Looking back, it’s those simple memories that usually become the most meaningful.

After I delivered the gallery, Harriet kindly gave me permission to submit a few of the photographs to international photography magazines. I was delighted when several images from this session were later featured in Iconic Artist Magazine and photoVogue. It made this beautiful session even more memorable, but for me the most important part will always be knowing that Harriet has those memories of Matilda’s very first weeks at home.
